The scale of the opposition to the RSB is cheerful making. So many really good people going public and offering tips to us mortals is fantastic. We will never change the minds of the Atlas footsoldiers but some of National’s backbenchers and NZF may see the writing on the wall, so keep the pressure on!
Thanks Bryan, great article. I would note that the submission suggestions at the end are quite Treaty centred. While that is extremely important, this Bill affects everything, and it's critical there are submissions on everything else too. From climate to human rights to AI regulation to pharmaceuticals to monopolies to disabled rights to food safety to working conditions to health and safety to public services to welfare.... And the list goes on.
If people are wondering how it might affect their sector or what they care about, we've created this Sector - Specific RSB Tool to help people do their own thinking about it. https://tinyurl.com/RSBTool
This is a great help, Bryan. I’m busy proofing a book (you know which one!) before I head off out of the country for a few months. Top of my to-do list for the week is a submission on the dreadful RSB. Thanks for the clear, straightforward guide. I appreciate it very much.
Is it possible to make more than one submission on this disgusting bill? I have already made one, but I know more now about the topic and would like to make another submission. Do you think this is legally possible?
The page isn't working...either due to somebody mucking with it so we can't submit opposition to the nasty bill...or so many people are doing just that, it broke the internet :D
This is really useful Bryan. Hope you don't mind me asking, can you make this freely available? It will help lots of people.
I seen people ask about writing something i their submission that will resonate with NZ 1st, as that party has expessed reservations with this RSB. I think you make some really excellent points!!!
One of the points is that foreign corporate interests will take precedence over our interests ( see the various lists). I sent a copy of my submission to Winston Peters, thanking him for having always opposed that and urging him to do it again. I also thanked him for my gold card, thereby revealing that I am potentially in the demographic that votes for NZF.
I will be certain to do my submission on the bill - if nothing else recent legislation introfuced by ACT has happily decimated future wage earnings for many whilst they propose a bill that we can never do this for profits.
However in this day and age with the way past legislation has been treated by ours and overseas governments, I can't think of any good reason why other parties can't simply say they will scrap the act "under urgency" (of course) when they are elected.
That’s a great summary and very helpful thank you Bryan. I sent off my submission last week and found the six points you had previously highlighted very helpful.

I have just read Rebecca Sinclair's excellent submission - Rebecca is an academic, co-founder of the Pākehā Project. https://e-tangata.co.nz/comment-and-analysis/a-bill-of-a-different-magnitude/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=16Jun2025
I've done a submission a pretty simple one but one nevertheless.
Great Pauline!
Thank you Bryan!!
Thank you for giving so much helpful suggestions. I have already sent my submission but regret not putting more detail.
Good on you ! I think you can write and addition to your submission by quoting the date of it Carolyn . Worth a go.
