Although made in 2018 this Radiolab is a good look at the complexity of social media content control. It is based on Facebook, then the dominant platform, but all that attempt to regulate face the same challenges.

"Back in 2008 Facebook began writing a document. It was a constitution of sorts, laying out what could and what couldn’t be posted on the site. Back then, the rules were simple, outlawing nudity and gore. Today, they’re anything but. ..."

"Today, [2018] we explore that rulebook. We dive into its details and untangle its logic. All the while wondering what does this mean for the future of free speech?"

It was interesting then annoying to see that government was scared off from perusing the Bill to charge internet platforms as a recognition of the free advertising etc. stolen from our news media because Trump threatened them. I say someone should be talking with Mr Orange and explain the legitimacy of these charges. Throw his own tarriff arguments up in his face.

This made me think about Yanis Varoufakis thoughts around the new form of capital which he calls technofeudalsim and cloudists and how much power these platforms have.

I can't remember if I completed the questionnaire or not. I'm appalled by the way smart phones seem to have taken over our lives. But then I'm not a supporter of censorship in any shape or form. Education is the key along with parental guidance. Most kids cannot afford to buy phones never mind pay for the internet so who are the enablers here? I'm also completely against the moves in schools to provide kids with laptops or ipods. There will come a time where our children think the outside is a dirty place of no interest to them.

For some reason I don’t consistently get notification emails about your posts. Maybe that’s why you haven’t had much of a response to this one?

I can’t figure out why I get some notifications, and not others.
