Totally agree. Luxon is arrogant and completely lacking in empathy, displaying no concern at all for the majority of the people he was supposedly elected to serve. Politics favours the psychopath, and probably always has, but such individuals are now being granted excessive power in very dangerous circumstances. Our government, along with those of the US and the UK, provides a ghastly illustration of the failures of neoliberalism and the chaos it creates.
Meanwhile more public service staff were quietly made redundant last Friday. Even those who worked with them have not been told, so no idea who is still there or gone until you try to contact them.
What a total failure this govt is, no interest in bettering the Country, only themselves and their sponsors.
Apart from Luxon and co the other obvious ones are costello and McKee The latter won't stop until she has the AK47 (?) introduced in NZ. Costello won't stop until she has some type of vaping machine made available. Luxon and the rest of them won't stop until.. Goodness knows? How can we get rid of this government before everything is shot to pieces, including our environment?
Uncivilised is a too polite a description in my opinion; he doesn't care. It puts me in mind of the prevalence of narcissism amongst CEO's, the lack of empathy, entitlement, etc.
Yes on the button. I was not aware that this Govt changed the bright line test from 2 to 5 years…. Shocking. Brings me to asking “who holds the government to account during a parliamentary cycle against imposing legislation with pecuniary; cronyism; non-disclosure and the like actions, other than mere verbalising by opposing political parties.” In other words protecting the nation against laws which are detrimental to society based on scientific and subject leaders advice. When a group of contemptible gophers are overlording all of the rules?
The brightline test was changed from 10 years under the Labour government, to 2 under this government. The brightline test at 10 years meant that from 2020 anyone selling an investment property within 10 years of purchase would need to pay tax on any profit. This applied to investment properties only not the family home. It was in effect a capital gains tax on investment properties. See the massive conflict of interest by Luxon here?
Where are the journalists and presenters of more widely seen media (so called Mainstream Media) who will write editorials like this? Sure it used to happen once.
Not just Luxon, but other prime ministers who too have wreaked havoc on NZ society, have had significant links with America in terms of education and career, where they have apparently imbibed the notion that the most important determinant of success is the accumulation of wealth. That focus on money at the expense of other markers is the driver behind notions of "minimal government", individuals doing their own thing (choice), and lesser concern for others, the environment, science, history, etc. It is not surprising therefore, that the role of prime minister is treated as if just head of an almighty business rather than a leader who seeks the best for all.
I invested some money, not much, into a fund that is building quality low-cost rental housing. I will pay tax on any income from that investment, and that is fine. How is that different to buying a place, rinsing tenants, and pocketing tax free capital gain?

Yes it feels like we've been dumped into a big pile of 💩 & can't fight our way out 😭😭😭
Couldn’t agree more

I think they may be bought & paid for
Absolutely correct Bryan!!
So well explained Bryan! Very sad and very true.
Spot on 💯
Well said and spot on Bryan. I do wonder though if he is familiar with the word Hubris....??
He’s totally out of touch
Word.
Paying tax is showing respect for others. Tax is love in its simplest form… sharing.
