I made this natural documentary just a few days before Christmas 1999 and we were about to enter the new millenium. I’m someone who gets interested in all sorts of things - geology being one of them - and had been trying to get TVNZ interested in the idea of making a documentary about the origins of our land and animals and I was getting nowhere.
On leaving their building I looked up at the giant billboard across the street from their Victoria Street centre that was featuring the stars of their News team.
Smiling broadly at the far end of the line up was Jim Hickey, their very popular weather man. So I called Jim, he agreed to front the doco and TVNZ saw the opportunity to promote one of their own talented presenters in a prime time doco that I wrote and directed.
It was a win win.
