Thanks for picking up on that absurd remark of hers on CGT. she has no appreciation of the multitplier effects of the ongoing cuts and the consequent effect on the distribution of income and wealth and the social disintegration as we wait for growth spurts from the free market-- it will be so difficult to fix--

She is also dishonest, messaging from the trump playback that if a lie is repeated often enough it becomes a fact. Such as "we inherited a HUGE overspend", "Labour got the economy in a HUGE mess" etc., ignoring international praise that Ao/NZ took the best path through covid.

But, don't underestimate their intentions. I expect that by next election time they will have engineered an improvement for centre right voters and others with short memories that gains them support.

She’s out of her depth, but her supporters are ok with that because chaos and crises can cause a semiconscious median voter to condone privatisation

Bryan, I quote from your article : "The only people who really benefit from a tax cut are those who are already well off." So true !! and don't Willis and Luxon well know it ... while parading around in front of the Camera's implying that all their focus in giving tax-cuts is to help all those who are less well off, or as in the last round, helping the so-called "squeezed middle". Total Bollocks ! ! They know full well who gains the most, themselves and their well-off mates, but they play down that aspect of any tax-cuts given. Let's pretend instead as to how much better off the lives of those less-well-off will be is the angle they push, so caring and so generous. Like as in the last round, I gained $2.05 a week in my wallet (instantly absorbed by a Power price increase, but let's not take that into consideration) $2.05 a week is $2.05 a week in anyone's language .... WHOOPIE ! ! Let's go shopping, ignorant to what you're getting Nicola and Christopher

Exactly Brian.

They are disciples of the Atlas cult. Not good for New Zealand. She has no clue and should never have been finance minister. That shows a very shallow pool of talent, total incompetence in the National party or jobs for the boys / girls that have a well-connected family. Probably all of those things.

We are being driven into a 1987 style depression that took 10 years to get out of. There is no excuse for repeating the austerity policies that didn't work then and won't work now. Such a waste of everybody's time and effort.

I am sure that she is a loving mother and all that, but please she is not a patch on Michael Cullen (RIP) or Grant Robertson.

The Tripartite Coalition seems to have successfully persuaded its supporters that the Covid pandemic never happened, and therefore the expenditure on coping with that upheaval was unnecessarily 'wasted' expenditure, 'frittered away' by the Labour Government on 'nothing'. Most governments around the world were obliged to spend vast amounts on Covid, one way or another, whether successful or not. New Zealand's management of the pandemic was, in fact, one of the best. However, the current Coalition and their supporters would have you believe otherwise. In that, they've followed the stance adopted by many right-wing administrations worldwide, who also want to pretend the pandemic never happened. In recent years it's been acknowledged that ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand, however humans definitely do!

I was vaguely watching One News, and thought I heard Luxon say that NZ doesn’t want a CGT on their Kiwisaver.

I wondered if I had heard it correctly, but after reading your article it must have been. I thought a CGT was suggested for property profits only?
