Thanks Bryan! It’s good to hear some really well informed explanation and rational analysis of what’s going on in our political scene. Aotearoa needs to hear more from Dr Melody Nixon. Ngā mihi nui.
Terrific interview Bryan what an intelligent articulate woman. I agree with you about Labour they're going to have to get back to their roots to capture the votes.
Good! One word I didn't hear in Dr Nixon talking about the USA was 'fascism'. That is clearly the direction that Christian Nationalism is taking there. And here? If the 'christian nationalism' demonstrated in the Brian Tamaki march, and the fascistic talk of David Seymour, were to come into a united play, I hope there are still enough rational thinkers here to stand against it.
Excellent interview Bryan and great insights thanks Melody.
I want to highlight though, that many ‘freedom movement’ kiwis I know are passionately supportive of Te Tiriti/māori rights and shouldn’t automatically be lumped in with those who support Seymour's divisive rhetoric. These people (I know) tend to feel somewhat disenfranchised, often lower socioeconomic, maybe higher proportionally māori.
In contrast, many pro-vaccine (non-“freedom movement”) supporters are embracing Seymour’s populist race-baiting rhetoric. This group tends to be better off right-leaning, colonialist-biased, non-Māori, highlighting the complexities of identity politics and how individuals can hold seemingly contradictory views.
No doubt, behind the scenes coordinated interest groups are subtly fanning the flames and I wouldn’t be surprised if Brian Tamaki and the likes, are receiving money for amplifying discord, like Tommy Robinson was exposed with dubious foreign links following the recent UK riots.
Depressingly, NZ’s flailing old school media are continuing to give these NZ charlatans end to end coverage, playing right into their hands. Maybe this isn’t accidental?
As Bryan suggested, if we can somehow embrace and empower/impassion these historically disenfranchised people to engage and start voting then hopefully we can somehow change Aotearoa’s course away from the dreaded US oligarchy direction we appear to be heading in.
Yet another excellent enlightening interview Bryan. Thanks so much. How do you find so many with this quality? We are much the richer and informed. Very interesting to have my own thoughts validated.

What an excellent interview and a heads up with cautionary advice for our politics and country.
