The more interviews I listen too on the RSB debate I hope all people vote in the future. However there seems to be a disconnect between wanting public goods and protect our people, nature and water and team-NZ culture when a crisis happens like RSB, or Pike River tragedy, or hospital service fails, versus the narrative of what individuals vote for at election time when the conversation is about what inviduals get when from the candidates in the next short term election cycle. Maybe we get what we deserve because we collectively didn't ask enough questions, didn't respect politicians enough to encourage more people to stand and didn't all vote--depressing, but it is what it is. I guess the opportunity is to change that. Also makes me wonder about the long term strategies of political parties to get candidates with values that align to public good, improving public services, provision of effective regulation etc. And to make clear if the candidate is here for optimizing for all New Zealanders now and future, or if only working for their vested interests. That's a bit long but does make me wonder about how to improve funnel of capable candidates.
Brilliant, & yes we have to work to try to prevent this repugnant & evil bill from passing. More & more,it seems Neo Liberalism's goal is a return to a type of serfdom & if that happens then we're all in very deep excrement. Most of us will have kids, grandkids & even greatgrandkids; for their sake we have no alternative but to fight against this.
Thanks so much Bryan. I adore Marama. She is fantastic.
Not something I would usually say about many politicians.
I have made my submission! The work of Melanie Nelsons on her substack and interviews there and here and elsewhere has been of huge help to me on this.
I am not feeling hopeful .. 😞 NACTNZ1 are too powerful and don't care about The Common Good ..They will pass the Rs I'll. but I am hopeful it will be a one term COC. 🤞
One of your best interviews Brian thoroughly enjoyed it! Marama was a pleasure to listen to and I agree with her totally!
Wonderful interview, Marama is so positive
But the burning issue is for everyone is get their submission in before the 23rd June. Most important.
