Competition is supposed to be capitalism’s self-correcting mechanism. Adam Smith’s “invisible hand” was meant to guide markets toward efficiency, innovation and lower prices. Companies compete, consumers benefit, and the economy hums along with ruthless but productive discipline.
That’s the theory.
But here in Aotearoa/ New Zealand, the invisible hand looks more like an invisible fist repeatedly punching the faces of would be competitors.
