You may recall that in 2023 Associate Minister of Education David Seymour campaigned on putting an end to the school lunch programme which he claimed was wasteful. In the face of a public backlash however he agreed to continue the provision of school meals but vowed he would save $107 million a year by awarding the contract to the “school lunch collective” headed up Compass Group NZ Ltd but which also involves Gilmours and Libelle .
They got the contract because they promised to deliver a range nutritional meals on time for just $3 a day per child.
How could they promise to do that?
